Where Do You Meet with God? Exodus 25:22

The 25th chapter of Exodus details the furnishings for the Tabernacle, including the Ark of the Covenant Law and the Atonement Lid or Cover. This cover was solid gold and had a pair of cherubim, one at either end with their wings overshadowing the lid. God was said to symbolically dwell in the space between the cherubim (1 Sam. 4:4). And this was where the blood of the annual atonement offering was sprinkled (Lev. 16:11-17).

But it was also where God would meet with Moses, giving him instructions to pass on to the Israelites. There was likely nothing there for Moses to see, but he would hear God’s voice from between the cherubim.

Moses had a unique place in the history of redemption as the person God used to deliver Israel from Egypt and broker God’s covenant with them. And he had a unique place to meet with God. But having a place to meet with God is not reserved for unique people like Moses.

Where Is Your Meeting Place?

As believers, we are invited to come before the throne of God (Heb. 10:19-22) and to meet with him. But where is that for you? Do you have a place where you can go to meet with God? A place where it is just him and you, away from all the world’s distractions?

I try to walk through my neighborhood early in the morning while it is still dark. The activity keeps me awake, and the darkness hides the distracting surroundings. It is there that I can meet with God each day.

Your meeting place will probably be different from mine. But what is important is that you have a time and place where you can regularly spend time alone with God. A time to share your heart and mind with him. And a time to listen for his still small voice (1 Kings 19:11-13)–a voice that draws you near and provides instruction, comfort, correction, and guidance.
